TKO started with three guiding principles. This seemed like a once in a lifetime chance, something that would not come around again. Sebastian Girner was convinced to come aboard as Editor-In-Chief after hearing how serious the company was about not only making comics but doing it in a new way. A few years back Chun came back into contact with Sal Simeone, beginning a chain of fortunate occurrences that inspired him to found TKO. Through it all he always wanted to do something with comics, but the opportunity never presented itself. “It’s a lot of work to make a really bad comic, so it’s that much harder to make a really good one,” Camp began, “what convinced you to start a company? Why did you do this to yourself?” Chun always loved comics, but focused on independent film for much of his life. The roster was small, consisting of just co-founder and publisher Tze Chun and Editor-in-Chief Sebastian Girner, but they had a lot to say about how they’re trying to reinvent the comics publisher. ![]() On the second day of Emerald City Comic Con, writer Deniz Camp moderated TKO Studios’ first panel. ![]()

![]() ![]() Without knowing that much about golf, I could still relate to the "salvation" the main character found in his sport. When I saw quotes of praise on the back cover and the first page of the book from author Walker Percy, who I have read and enjoyed before, I knew this would be a worthwhile read. It's a humorous novel not just about golf, but about life in general-its hopelessness at times, as well as its triumphs on other occasions. So, I picked up THE RUB OF THE GREEN, by William Hallberg, thinking it sounded interesting. I am a firsthand witness to this, because my husband, two brothers, one brother-in-law, and several friends are golfers. Golfers are usually fanatical about their sport and can easily get lost in their enthusiasm for the game when talking about it with other golfers. However, I do not consider myself a golfer, although I have played once or twice (and even enjoyed it). I love running and playing tennis, in addition to viewing most major sports on television or in person. ![]() ![]() ![]() Urn:oclc:47635691 Republisher_date 20120728143847 Republisher_operator Scandate 20120727015619 Scanner . The book's initial story is somewhat thin, and there's some tricky moral questions Johns doesn't quite address, but Johns and artist Ivan Reis are a powerhouse team, offering an engaging, attractive comic that more than overcomes its shortfalls. Rather what stands out in Aquaman: The Trench is Johns's humanizing of the character, emphasizing for the first time in a long time the Sea King's human, land-locked origins. The strength of Geoff Johns's DC Comics New 52 Aquaman debut is not, as many have suggested, Johns's positioning of Aquaman as a "joke" in the DC Universe as he often is in the real world, acknowledging and moving on from this - though to be sure this is a clever aspect of the book. ![]() 7/6/2023 0 Comments Book black athena![]() ![]() Kwasi Kwarteng MP, author and commentator Tom Holland, classicist Professor Edith Hall, and writer and broadcaster Lindsay Johns held this engaging discussion not merely about a scholarly tome on the classical world from yesteryear, but also very much about our contemporary attitudes to a book whose thesis has huge ramifications for today’s rapidly changing modern world, including the #BlackLivesMatter, Rhodes Must Fall and “Decolonizing The Curriculum” debates.
